Piyush Goyal: News

Piyush Goyal is a chartered accountant, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, and Union Minister in the Government of India. In the past, he has worked as an investment banker and has served on the board of State Bank of India (SBI) and Bank of Baroda. He comes from a family of BJP politicians, his mother being a three-time MLA and his father having served as a Union Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Goyal has been a Rajya Sabha MP since 2010. He led the BJP’s campaign committee for the 2014 General Elections, in which the saffron party won a clear majority, with Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister. Since then, he has served as the Minister of State (MoS) for New and Renewable Energy (2014-17); Minister for Coal (2014-19); MoS for Mines (2016-17); Minister of Railways (2017-21); Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs (2018 and 2019); Minister of Commerce and Industry (2019 onwards); Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution (2020 onwards); and Minister for Textiles (2021 onwards) in the Modi Government. In July 2021, Goyal became the Leader of the House for Rajya Sabha.
