AI could double US economic growth in 10 years, says study

Business

A new study from Anthropic suggests today's AI models can help people finish tasks up to 80% faster.
If used widely, this boost could double how quickly the US economy grows each year—raising productivity growth from 0.9% to 1.8%.
The research is based on over 100,000 chats with Claude, Anthropic's own AI.

How they figured this out

Researchers compared how long tasks took with and without Claude's help, then checked their numbers using real-world software development data and wage info from 2024.
They found software developers would see the biggest gains (19% of total productivity), with managers and marketing specialists close behind.

What to keep in mind

The study only looked at Claude and assumed AI won't change much over the next decade—which isn't super realistic.
It also didn't count extra time humans might need to check AI's work.
Still, it gives a glimpse of how much AI could shake up jobs and the economy soon.
