Air India caps economy fares after IndiGo's mass cancelations

Business

After IndiGo canceled a bunch of flights and ticket prices shot up, Air India and Air India Express stepped in to cap economy fares on nonstop domestic routes from December 4.
This move blocks those wild price hikes when seats run low, but it only covers direct flights—if your trip has stops or you're booking mixed cabins through third-party sites, the cap doesn't apply.

Not all tickets are covered

The fare cap is just for nonstop economy tickets booked directly; journeys with stops or mixed cabins booked via travel platforms can still get pricey.
Air India admits these exceptions are tricky to control but says they're working with booking sites to improve things.

Airlines adding extra flights and support

To help out travelers caught in the chaos, airlines like SpiceJet and Fly91 are putting on more flights.
Plus, the government has told airlines to speed up refunds and banned rescheduling fees for affected passengers—small wins meant to make life a bit easier while cancelations continue.
