As You Sow sues Labor Department over withheld EEO-1 reports
A shareholder group called As You Sow is suing the Trump administration's Labor Department, saying it's been sitting on key workplace diversity data for more than two years.
They want access to EEO-1 reports from 2021 and 2022: these reports break down company workforces by race and gender, helping groups like As You Sow study how diversity connects to company performance.
States, investors oppose ending EEO-1
The Trump administration not only withheld the data but also wants to stop collecting EEO-1 reports entirely as part of its diversity, equity, and inclusion policy changes.
Investors like New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli are pushing back, saying transparency is essential for judging companies' risks.
Meanwhile, states such as California and Colorado are stepping up to keep collecting this information—Colorado will even require it beginning in July 2027.
