Basmati rice exporters are struggling with a spike in shipping charges, putting their orders and cargo quality at risk.
The exporters' forum, led by Priyanka Mittal, is urging the government to step in, asking for the crisis to be declared a force majeure event from March 1 so that extra detention and storage fees for West Asia-bound shipments can be paused.

Mittal also wants a joint task force with government officials, shipping companies, and exporters to sort out disputed charges and speed up container releases.
The forum says quick action is needed to protect small businesses that rely on Gulf markets from long-term trade setbacks.
