BBC to cut about 550 jobs and trim $107 million
The BBC is making some big changes: about 550 jobs are being cut from its Content, Nations, and News teams, and the broadcaster plans to spend $107 million less on new shows over the next two years.
Director-General Matt Brittin called these moves necessary in "we live in very uncertain times," as the BBC looks for ways to handle financial pressure.
BBC targets 1,800 to 2,000 layoffs
This is just the start. The BBC aims to cut a total of 1,800 to 2,000 jobs over three years and may trim another 700 roles elsewhere.
The goal? To save $670 million out of its $6.7 billion budget.
On top of that, the BBC is tightening spending on hiring, travel, and events while discussing future funding models with the UK government, including possible changes to how people pay for BBC services.
