Big tech firms invest $915 million in carbon removal via Frontier
Some of the world's biggest tech companies just teamed up to invest $915 million in new ways to pull carbon out of the atmosphere.
This latest funding comes from Frontier, the coalition, which brings their total commitment to $1.8 billion since 2022, launched in 2022 by companies including Stripe and Google.
The goal: Speed up innovation so these climate solutions can actually make a difference.
Frontier funds carbon removal expansion
The money will go toward scaling up methods like ocean alkalinity enhancement, direct air capture, and other approaches that could remove massive amounts of CO2 if they can get cheaper and more reliable.
Frontier plans to support 10 to 15 projects through long-term contracts running until 2040.
Scientists say this is key for cutting emissions from industries that can't ditch fossil fuels yet.
Anthropic, a new participant, also joined the coalition, but individual contributions weren't shared.
