Foxconn plans iPhone enclosure production in Tamil Nadu
Foxconn, the company behind many Apple products, is opening a new plant in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, to make iPhone enclosures.
This move is part of Apple's plan to spread out its supply chain and not rely so much on China.
The new facility will add to Foxconn's existing iPhone assembly work in Sriperumbudur, boosting India's role in making iPhones.
Foxconn's $1.5 billion bet on India
With a $1.5 billion investment, Foxconn is showing real confidence in India as an iPhone manufacturing hub.
While enclosures are just one part of the phone, bringing more production here helps reduce risks and supports Apple's push to make more devices in India for global markets—especially the US.
Foxconn is also expanding with projects like AirPods production in Hyderabad and a display module plant nearby, making India even more important for Apple's future plans.
