Gallup: remote workers likelier laid off than replaced by AI
Business
A new Gallup poll shows remote workers are at higher risk of being laid off than being replaced by AI: 25% of people who lost jobs worked fully remote, while just 1% were let go because of AI.
Most layoffs came down to company restructuring, budget cuts, or tough economic times.
Layoffs 21% and remote worker isolation
Layoff rates have settled at 21% after a big jump between 2022 and 2025, with tech and federal government jobs still feeling the pinch.
Meanwhile, a Science study found that remote work has played a major role in declining mental health, especially for those living alone, who reported more isolation and higher rates of depression.
