India and EU to sign free trade agreement this year
Business
India and the European Union are gearing up to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) before the end of the year, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The announcement came after talks with PM Modi and EU leaders at the G-7 summit in France.
This deal follows up on negotiations from their January summit in New Delhi.
FTA to ease trade for businesses
The FTA means smoother business: trade will be easier for everyone.
Von der Leyen said the free trade agreement was a major step forward for both economies.
On top of that, both sides want to speed up an investment agreement and work closer on security and defense.
They're also pushing ahead with the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor to boost regional connectivity.
