India may mandate 1% SAF for international flights by 2027
Business
India may require all international flights from the country to start using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2027, beginning with a small 1% blend.
The big idea? Cut down on flight emissions and ramp up local SAF production, making air travel a bit greener for everyone.
SAF to reach 40% by 2040
The SAF blend would slowly increase, reaching 40% by 2040, with hopes that most of it comes from Indian producers.
While SAF does cost more than regular jet fuel, the government plans to help airlines out with tax breaks and refinery support, so ticket prices shouldn't jump much at first.
