Indian government considers capping trade margins on anti-infective drugs
The Indian government is thinking about capping trade margins on anti-infective drugs, basically common medicines like antibiotics and antivirals.
This idea comes after a similar move to make cancer drugs more affordable.
Right now, the trade margins on these medicines can go over 100%, so the goal is to help people pay less at the pharmacy.
India capped margins on cancer formulations
Anti-infectives are some of the most widely used medicines in India, so this change could impact many people.
Earlier this year, the government capped margins for 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer formulations, which are expected to reduce MRPs by up to 93% from November 9.
For now, there are no plans to expand those cancer drug caps further, but if this new rule goes through, getting basic medicines might get a bit easier on your wallet.
