Indian investors' global bets hit $1.7 billion—here's what's changing

Business

Indian investors are putting way more money abroad than before, with overseas investments jumping from $422 million in FY19 to about $1.6 billion in FY25, says a new Vested Finance report.

From single stocks to smarter portfolios

Instead of just picking big names like NVIDIA or Tesla, Indian investors are now spreading their bets—on average holding eight different securities each, including US index funds (ETFs), AI and healthcare themes, and private markets.

Young retail investors lead the charge

Retail investors make up 82% of these global investments, with many starting with under $2,000.
Nearly half are under 35 and almost half come from smaller cities—showing this trend isn't just for the metros or older crowd.

Tech tools and rupee dips fuel the surge

Digital investing platforms have made it easier for people to invest globally, while a weaker rupee has nudged many to look outside India for better returns.
In fact, 38% of investors increased their allocations in their very first year abroad.
