Tesla is an American electric automobile manufacturer headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Named after the famous scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla, the company was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Elon Musk, who had invested major funds at the beginning, took over as the CEO in 2008. In 2009, Tesla began the production of its first car, the Roadster, which was followed by the Model S (sedan), Model X (SUV), Model 3 (sedan), and Model Y (crossover). Apart from the EVs, the company also manufactures battery energy storage, solar panels, as well as solar roof tiles.
