Indian Railways to build 3 new freight corridors at ₹1.5L crore
Indian Railways is rolling out plans for three major freight corridors across southern, eastern, and central India.
These new routes will link up with existing ones to create a more connected national network, aiming to make moving goods faster and smoother across the country.
What's the big deal?
The new corridors—East Coast (Kharagpur-Vijayawada), East-West (Bhusawal-Dankuni), and North-South Sub-Corridor (Vijayawada-Nagpur-Itarsi)—will cover over 3,700km in total and cost about ₹1.5 trillion.
The focus is on speeding up trains (possibly up to 100km/h!), handling heavier loads, and making rail transport more reliable—great news for anyone interested in how stuff gets from point A to B.
Why now?
India's freight and logistics market is booming, expected to jump from $350 billion in 2025 to $550 billion by 2030.
While 300-350 trains run daily on current dedicated routes, experts say there's still room for better connections and smarter use of terminals.
This upgrade could help railways carry an even bigger share of India's growing cargo needs.
