India's AIRF seeks pay, promotions from 8th Pay Commission
India's railway workers, led by the All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF), are asking the eighth Pay Commission for a major upgrade: higher salaries, more chances to get promoted, and improved promotional opportunities.
Their demands especially highlight the challenges faced by track maintainers and female loco pilots, aiming to make things fairer for both current staff and pensioners.
AIRF seeks updated salary structure
AIRF is calling for better salaries and a salary structure that fits today's more technical railway jobs.
They point out that modern roles, like maintaining rolling stock, signaling systems, and tracks, require specialized skills and come with bigger responsibilities.
Since pay commissions only happen once every 10 years, this is their shot to push for real change before recommendations come out in mid-2027.
