Japanese companies are suing OpenAI over 'Sora 2' training data

Business

Big names like Square Enix, Studio Ghibli, and Toei are pushing back against OpenAI, saying its AI tool Sora 2 has been trained on their creative works without asking first.
Led by the Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA), which represents companies such as Square Enix and Toei, they're demanding OpenAI stop using their copyrighted material and adopt an opt-in policy instead of its "use-unless-you-opt-out" policy.

CODA wants clear permission before using any member content

CODA wants OpenAI to get clear permission before using any member content in Sora 2 and to address any copyright complaints about what the AI creates.
The Japanese government is backing these concerns too, especially when it comes to protecting cultural icons like One Piece and Demon Slayer.
Since OpenAI hasn't responded yet, legal action could be on the table if things don't change soon.
