Jio GigaFiber best for viewing Netflix, shows ISP data
Reliance Jio GigaFiber, which is currently being tested in several cities, has already topped broadband charts, according to Netflix ISP Speed Index. In the month of April, the FTTH service provided the highest speed of 3.49Mbps to its customers when they viewed Netflix. Spectranet came second by achieving 3.43Mbps on the same index. Here's all about it.
At number 3, 7 Star Digital closely trailed Spectranet by recording 3.41Mbps. Bharti Airtel, with 3.29Mbps speed, came fourth on the Netflix ISP Speed Index for the month of April. Atria Convergence Technologies, You Broadband, and Hathway achieved 3.16Mbps, 3.04Mbps, and 2.97Mbps, respectively, to take the fifth, sixth and seventh ranks. State-run BSNL, with 1.97Mbps speed, took the 13th spot on the monthly index.
In its April report, Credit rating agency ICRA has said that Reliance Jio leads the wireless broadband market with a market share of 56%, followed by Bharti and Vodafone-Idea at 21% each. ICRA further added that Jio has 100% broadband subscribers, while a similar ratio for Vodafone-Idea and Bharti Airtel stood at 27% and 32%, respectively.
Reportedly, Jio is currently conducting Ready for Sale (RFS) surveys to identify suitable areas to install its GigaFiber service. The company officials are reaching out to the authorities of Multiple Dwelling Units like the high-rise societies and Single Dwelling Units such as private homes for the deployment of the service. However, there is no official timeline regarding its launch at present.
To recall, the company had earlier announced to launch its fiber-optic broadband service across 1,100 cities. However, the roll-out will now be even bigger. In a statement announcing March 2019 quarter earnings, Reliance has confirmed to launch Jio GigaFiber across 1,600 cities in the country.
