Korea Exchange extends local trading hours to 8pm Monday
Starting Monday, the Korea Exchange (KRX) will keep its doors open for local stocks until 8pm instead of the usual 3:30pm.
This big change is all about making it easier for overseas investors, especially in Europe, to join in, and KRX is the first major Asian exchange to try this.
It's part of a global trend, with places like Nasdaq and NYSE already offering longer trading days.
About 2,400 Kospi and Kosdaq stocks
About 2,400 Kospi and Kosdaq stocks will be available during these new evening hours (but not ETFs).
The hope is that more international investors will jump in, especially with AI driving so much market buzz lately.
Still, there are concerns: late-night sessions often see mostly retail traders and less action from big institutions, which could mean more price swings.
Plus, limited currency trading after hours might make things tricky for those looking to hedge their bets.
Whether this move really boosts steady trading remains to be seen, but it definitely puts South Korea on the map for global investors.
