Maharashtra posts 12.6% tax jump, collects ₹2.51L cr 2025-26
Maharashtra just pulled off a solid 12.6% jump in combined GST, VAT and Profession Tax collections in the 2025-26 fiscal year, bringing in ₹2.51 lakh crore.
That makes it the top GST earner in India yet again, beating its budget targets for the fourth straight year.
GST itself went up by 14.6% compared with the previous financial year (FY24-25).
Maharashtra GST department surpasses 100% targets
GST, VAT, and profession tax now make up nearly two-thirds of Maharashtra's own tax revenue, a big deal for the state's finances.
The state's GST department hit over 100% of its budget goals by using smarter data tools and keeping a close eye on compliance, even with some tax rate changes and tougher enforcement rules along the way.
Its focus on making things easier for businesses also played a part in this strong performance.
