Maruti Suzuki emerges as the market leader once again

Maruti Suzuki is still the king of Indian streets and it shows. It's scooped up seven of the top spots in the passenger car segment sold in July. Out of 2.98 lakh units sold in the domestic market, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 1.53 lakh cars. Overall, the market leader has sold an average of 4,945 cars per day last month. Here's more.

    What's hot in the market?

The top 10 list had five of Maruti Suzuki's hatchbacks, one sedan, and one SUV. Maruti Suzuki Alto continues being India's top-selling car, as Alto 800 and Alto K10 both the variants combined had a total sale of 26,009 units. This time, the second spot went from Maruti Suzuki Dzire to Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback, which is being sold under the automaker's NEXA channel.

    Who's buying what?

The automaker has sold 19,153 units of Maruti Suzuki Baleno in July. It comes with both petrol and diesel engine options and has 11-variants. Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza sold over 15,200 units in the same month. The fifth spot was taken by Swift hatchback, which sold 13,738 units, while the sixth and seventh spot went to Hyundai Grand i10 and Hyundai Elite i20, respectively.

    An overall positive trajectory

Compared to the same period last year, the April-July sales of passenger vehicles, this year, grew by 7.29%. Showing a healthy trajectory, sales of passenger cars grew by 5.15%, while the sales of utility vehicles and vans grew by 14.98% and 0.09%, respectively. It has been estimated that the plethora of GST benefits and discounts are the reasons behind this positive growth.
