Narendra Modi to lay foundation for ₹25,016cr coal-to-ammonium nitrate plant
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for India's first commercial coal-to-ammonium nitrate project in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
With a price tag of ₹25,016 crore, this facility aims to boost local chemical production and cut down on imports.
The project is being built by Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited, a joint effort by BHEL and Coal India.
Plant to produce 2,000 tons daily
Once up and running, the plant will turn coal into gas to make 2,000 tons of ammonium nitrate every day (think fertilizer and key industrial uses).
Built on 350 acres leased from Mahanadi Coalfields, it's part of a bigger push to reduce India's massive ₹2.7 lakh crore chemical import bill.
Backed by government incentives, this project is one of 25 projects in coal-bearing regions that could bring in huge investments and create thousands of jobs.
