Reliance Industries's media arm just had a standout year, pulling in ₹34,917 crore in revenue and ₹3,434 crore in profit.
Addressing shareholders of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on Friday, Akash Ambani shared that JioHotstar smashed past 1 billion downloads, the first Indian paid streaming app to do it.
JioStar leads Indian TV 34.7% share
JioHotstar set a new world record with 72.5 million people streaming India's T20 World Cup win at once, plus an average of 451 million monthly active users.
Meanwhile, JioStar, a joint venture created after the merger of the media business of Reliance and the India business of global media giant Walt Disney, now leads Indian TV with a 34.7% viewership share.
On the content side, Jio Studios's Dhurandhar franchise crossed ₹3,000 crore at the box office, and Network18 hit over 65 billion digital video views, with its flagship news brands -- CNBC-TV18, CNN-News18 and News18 India -- continuing to lead their respective categories.
