Study finds HR professionals confident yet companies prefer hiring externally
A new study shows 92% of HR professionals and 88% of people managers feel confident their teams could learn the skills needed for AI jobs.
Still, over half of companies (51%) are choosing to hire new people instead of training those they already have, a surprising disconnect between belief and action.
HR visibility gaps complicate reskilling choices
43% of HR professionals say it's tough to pick who should get AI training, due to limited visibility into individual skill sets and which employees should be reskilled.
Some industries, like tech and telecom, are more likely to look outside for talent, while media are more open to retraining current staff.
Ironically, hiring from outside can cost up to five times more than reskilling people already on board, so it's a pricey habit that might not make sense in the long run.
