Tata iPhone parts factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu under investigation
Tata's iPhone parts factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, is under investigation after local farmers said pollution from the plant was harming their crops and even causing skin problems.
The state pollution board got involved in May 2026 when farmers raised concerns about possible groundwater contamination.
E. coli detected, Tata denies contamination
Health officials reported that water from their fields tested positive for E. coli (basically a sign of sewage pollution) and said the factory's discharge had caused a severe foul smell in the area.
Tata has pushed back, saying their own checks found no contamination at the site, which is important to Apple's big manufacturing plans in India.
Health officials are still waiting on more test results as they keep an eye on public safety.
Industry growth raises local health concerns
This whole situation really highlights the ongoing tension between industrial growth and protecting local communities' health and environment, a debate that's only getting louder as more factories pop up across India.
