Why Urban Company has sued Kent RO
What's the story
Urban Company has filed a defamation and disparagement suit against Kent RO Systems in the Delhi High Court. The lawsuit alleges that Kent RO's advertisements made false and misleading claims about Urban Company's Native water purifiers. The dispute centers around the two-year filter life and two-year service life features of these purifiers, which were allegedly called a "marketing gimmick" by Kent RO.
Allegations
Kent labeled UC's water purifiers 'unsafe,' 'risky'
The disputed advertisements not only questioned the two-year filter life and two-year service life of Urban Company's Native M0, M1, M2, M1 Pro and M2 Pro water purifiers but also labeled them as "unsafe" and "risky" for consumers.
In response to these allegations, a hearing was held in the Delhi High Court on August 12.
Court order
Kent RO agreed to take down disputed advertisements
After the hearing, Kent RO agreed to remove the disputed advertisements from its platforms.
The company also promised not to run any other ads or promotional content making similar claims about water purifiers with a two-year filter life or two-year no-servicing feature, that may disparage Urban Company.
The court instructed Kent RO to take down the advertisements and social media posts within 15 days.
Legal disputes
Other legal matters pending
Urban Company has also highlighted that other legal matters between the two companies are still pending. These include a patent infringement suit filed by Kent RO, Urban Company's counterclaim against this patent, and an interference suit filed by Urban Company against Kent RO.
