US becomes India's top LNG supplier March to May 2026
Big switch-up in India's energy scene:
Between March and May 2026, the US became India's number one LNG supplier for the first time ever.
US exports shot up to 1.5 million metric tons (from just 0.5 million metric tons last year), while Qatar's dropped sharply after an attack on its main facility, sending its shipments down to just 0.1 million metric tons.
West Asia conflict disrupts gas routes
The ongoing conflict in West Asia has seriously disrupted gas routes, especially through the Strait of Hormuz.
As a result, the US now supplies over a quarter of India's LNG (up from a little over 8% last year) while Qatar's share crashed from nearly half to less than 2%.
To keep things steady, India doubled its spot cargo orders and started buying more from places like Oman and Nigeria.
