US judge rejects Huawei's bid to dismiss charges

Huawei, one of China's biggest tech companies, is heading to trial in the US over serious charges like racketeering, stealing trade secrets from six American firms, and bank fraud.
Prosecutors say Huawei tricked banks about its business in Iran using a front company, moving over $100 million illegally.
The company has denied all wrongdoing but a judge says there's enough evidence for a full trial starting May 4, 2026, in Brooklyn.

TL;DR

Huawei's global presence and the 'China Initiative'

This case started back in 2018 when Huawei's CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada (her charges were dropped in 2022).
The prosecution was part of the now-ended "China Initiative," which aimed to tackle intellectual property theft but drew criticism for racial profiling.
With over 200,000 employees worldwide and a huge global presence, Huawei insists it isn't a threat to US security.
Still, this trial could seriously impact how the world views both the company and international tech competition.
