Huawei (Huawei Technologies) is a Chinese technology company with its headquarters based in Shenzhen, China. The company was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, a former deputy director of the People’s Liberation Army engineering corps for manufacturing phone switches. It then expanded into telecommunication networks, equipment, and consumer electronics business. The name ‘Huawei’ derives from the slogan “Zhonghua youwei” which means “China has promise.” The company currently manufactures its own Kirin-branded system-on-chip (SoC) under the HiSilicon brand for smartphones. It also develops its proprietary operating system named HarmonyOS.
