What's the story

Chandan Rungta, the CEO of Zepto's meat business, has resigned from his post. His departure comes less than a year after he took up the role in December 2023. In recent weeks, Zepto's meat business has been changing its strategy to keep growing. The start-up initially focused on its private label, Relish, to expand its meat business. But now, it has reintroduced Licious, a leading meat brand, into its product range to cater to both premium and mass-premium consumers.

Sales performance

Zepto's private label meat brand generating ₹480-600cr annual revenue

Zepto's private label meat brand, Relish, is raking in some serious money. The brand is said to be generating monthly sales of around ₹40-50 crore. This translates into an annual revenue run rate of ₹480-600 crore. The company confirmed these developments to Moneycontrol amid the ongoing changes in its meat business strategy and leadership.

Employee departures

Multiple senior executives exit Zepto in recent weeks

With Rungta's exit, Zepto continues to witness a spate of employee departures. Chandresh Dedhia, VP and Head of IT at Zepto, has resigned within a year of joining in December 2024. Apoorv Pandey, Senior VP Strategy at Zepto and a former Eternal (formerly Zomato) executive, has also left the company. He quit soon after Shashank Shekhar Sharma, CXO - Zepto Cafe, stepped down from his position.

More exits

Early employees' exits close to ESOP vesting cycle

Other early employees, mostly in mid-management roles below VP level, have also left Zepto. Senior Director Anant Rastogi, Business Head Suraj Sipani, Director of Strategy Vijay Bandhiya, and Chief Expansion Officer Roshan Shaikh have all quit the quick commerce firm in recent months. While Rastogi, Shaikh and Sipani each spent over four years at Zepto, Bandhiya joined in 2022, around when Zepto started operations and was scaling from a small quick commerce player to a leading rapid delivery company.
