Airtel VoWi-Fi service launched in Delhi-NCR

Bharti Airtel has finally launched its VoWi-Fi service in Delhi and NCR, becoming the first telco to offer Wi-Fi calling in the country. According to the telco, the VoWi-Fi feature is designed to improve voice calling experience for customers, especially when they are indoors. The service lets you make voice calls over a Wi-Fi connection without incurring any additional charge. Here are more details.

Airtel is touting of excellent signal quality

"Airtel Wi-Fi Calling is designed to enhance voice calling experience for Airtel smartphone customers, especially when they are indoors. With the service, customers with Wi-Fi at home or office will get excellent signal quality indoors," the telco said in a statement.

The service will offer superior audio quality

Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) uses Voice over IP (VoIP) technology to connect calls. The new service aims to enhance indoor voice calling experience by allowing you to seamlessly switch from LTE to VoWi-Fi when you are indoors. Meanwhile, Airtel claims its VoWi-Fi service will offer superior audio quality with minimal data consumption and at no extra charge.

    How to use the feature?

Airtel VoWi-Fi will not require any additional apps and can be easily configured on a compatible smartphone. If your handset supports VoWi-Fi, simply enable VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling for a seamless calling experience. Currently, Airtel VoWi-Fi is supported on iPhone 6s and later models, Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro, POCO F1, Samsung Galaxy J6, A10s, On6, M30s, and the OnePlus 7 and 7T series.

The service works with Xstream Fiber home broadband

As of now, the service is compatible only with Airtel's Xstream Fiber home broadband. However, the company plans to roll out support for other broadband services and Wi-Fi hotspots. Moreover, Airtel plans to extend the service across India after a successful roll-out in Delhi/NCR.
