Parking prices to hike in Delhi, higher tax to be imposed

What's the story

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has approved the 'Parking Policy for Delhi', to keep pollution levels and car encroachment under check. The policy proposes to charge higher for day-time parking and for peak hours. Road tax will also be increased to keep people from buying multiple cars. Once implemented, the government is expected to earn Rs. 600 crore. Keep reading for more from Delhi.

Delhi's AAP fined for unauthorized occupation of office

AAP will have to cough up a fine of Rs. 27 lakh, slapped by the PWD for unauthorized occupation of the party office. The fine, being 65 times the license fee, will keep on increasing if the party doesn't vacate the Rouse Avenue office. The party leaders have confirmed the receipt of the notice, but called it 'erroneous'.

A seminar was conducted by the PHD chamber of commerce and industry, along with with Gurgaon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) to sensitize industrialists about GST that will be rolled out on July 1, 2017 by the Union government. The GST is aimed at simplifying the tax structure of the country and boost economic growth.

Food safety department negates rumours of 'plastic rice' in Delhi

In the wake of addressing rising concerns of citizens about 'plastic rice' being sold in the market, Delhi Food safety department negated these rumours after conducting thorough random checks. The department collected at least 27 samples from across the city. None of them turned out to be plastic rice. This rumour spread after a customer complained about 'plastic rice' being used in Hyderabad.

One dies in a paint factory fire caused by chemicals

38-year-old labourer Naval Kishore died in a paint factory fire caused by an explosion on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, it happened when Kishore was pouring a chemical from a big tank into a pipe which triggered an explosion. Kishore died by the time firefighters and the police reached the factory. The factory lacked fire fighting arrangements. The police have lodged a complaint.

Delhi court convicts man to 10 years of jail for raping a girl

A trial court convicted a man to 10 years in jail for raping a minor girl. The girl came to Delhi as a domestic help and was placed at the office of the accused, Kumod Mishra. He raped her on a night she had to stay back. The girl opened up about it to another employer who helped her lodge a police complaint.

Delhi University to announce first cut-off list on June 23rd

According to a Delhi University release, first cut-off list will be declared on June 23rd. Although the university would declare six cut-off lists, dates of only five lists have been released. Post the announcement of the first cut-off, admissions will start from the next day onwards. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th cut-offs will be declared on July 1st, 7th, 13th and 18th respectively.
