Alan Moore: News
English writer Alan Moore was born on November 18, 1953, in Northampton. He belonged to a working-class family and is well-known for his work in comic books. Some of his famous books include ‘Watchmen,’ ‘V for Vendetta,’ ‘Batman: The Killing Joke,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’ Moore was an avid reader since the age of five. He used to get books via the local library and began reading comic strips, like ‘Topper.’ A few years after completing his 11-plus exam, he was selected to study in Northampton Grammar School and came in contact with middle-class and better-educated people for the first time. He subsequently started believing the fact that there was a ‘covert curriculum’ being taught, which he further believed was brainwashing students with ‘acceptance of monotony.’ Moore started publishing his essays and poetry in ‘fanzines’ in the late 1960s and went on to establish his own fanzine ‘Embryo.’ He also juggled between several jobs and later abandoned his office job to start writing his own comics.
