Brand's marriage to Perry came up during his rape trial
Katy Perry's brief marriage to Russell Brand did come up in his recent rape trial, even though prosecutors initially wanted to mention it.
Brand's legal team said their relationship was irrelevant to the allegations, so Brand himself briefly brought her up once, telling the jury that their relationship helped him achieve "staggering fame."
Brand guilty of rape and assaults
Brand, 51, was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault at London's Southwark Crown Court. The incidents allegedly took place between 2006 and 2013. He denied all allegations, saying everything was consensual.
Sentencing is set for Monday (UK time).
Perry was not asked to give a witness statement during the police investigation, but Brand did reference their marriage briefly during the proceedings.
His current wife, Laura, supported him throughout the trial.
