Why do women freeze eggs?
According to a survey, women often freeze their eggs when they wish to delay childbearing process due to some unavoidable reasons.
One of the most common reasons for not bearing a child in their 20s is because one doesn't want to shift focus from the career.
Besides, a majority of women freeze eggs because they don't have a partner.
How are eggs frozen?
Eggs are frozen using either a slow-freeze method or a flash-freezing process known as vitrification.
In order to redeem eggs for freezing, a patient undergoes a hormone-injection process known as -vitro fertilization.
Once the eggs are recovered through the process, they are frozen for a fixed period of time before they are defrosted, fertilized and transferred to the uterus as embryos.
What is the egg freezing cost in India?
As per reports, infertility specialists in Mumbai charge around Rs. 50,000 for egg freezing. There can be additional charges for maintenance of those eggs.
Frozen eggs are stored at 196 degrees Celsius and can survive up to 10 years without disturbance.
However, researchers say out of every 10 frozen eggs, 7 are likely to survive the thaw and 5-6 are expected to fertilize.
Egg-freezing, a blessing for Diana Hayden
Diana was 40 years old when she got married. It was only after her marriage she discovered that she has endometriosis.
It is a painful disease in which the endometrium or the inner lining of the uterus starts growing outside as well. Women with endometriosis can't always produce good quality eggs.
The whole process proved to be godsend for Hayden.
