Dileep acquitted in 2017 actress assault case; 6 convicted
Malayalam actor Dileep has been cleared of all charges in the 2017 assault case involving a Malayalam actress. The court said there just wasn't enough evidence to prove he was part of the conspiracy.
Meanwhile, six other men were found guilty and sentenced to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment for abducting and gang-raping the actress, then trying to blackmail her with a video of the attack.
What led to this verdict?
The judge pointed out gaps like missing CCTV footage, no clear money trail, and delays in witness statements as reasons for Dileep's acquittal.
Still, Kerala's government says it will appeal the decision.
The six convicted—Pulsar Suni, Martin Antony, B Manikandan, VP Vijeesh, H Salim and C Pradeep—were in jail awaiting their official sentencing, which took place on December 12.
