Here's how Bollywood celebrities are helping battle COVID-19
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread steadily in India, Bollywood celebrities are coming ahead to contribute towards the country's fight against the deadly virus. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the PM-CARES relief fund, stars like Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan donated towards the cause. Here is how various Bollywood celebrities are helping India defeat the deadly COVID-19 together.
Amid growing criticism about Bollywood celebrities doing little towards pandemic relief efforts, Akshay Kumar became the first mainstream actor to announce a donation towards the cause. The superstar said he would contribute a sum of Rs. 25 crores. "This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything," Akshay wrote on Twitter.
Salman Khan has offered to financially support 25,000 daily wage workers from the film industry, according to Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE). However, the actor hasn't made any official announcement yet. The association shared that 25,000 out of 5 lakh workers are in dire need of financial help, and Salman's Being Human foundation has offered to transfer money to their accounts.
A couple of days ago, Hrithik Roshan tweeted he would procure N95 and FFP3 protective masks for the workers of Bombay Municipal Corporation and other caretakers who are working despite the pandemic scare. According to a report in TOI, the actor has contributed an amount of Rs. 20 lakh for the cause. "In times such as these, we must do whatever we can...," Hrithik tweeted.
Meanwhile, T-Series head-honcho Bhushan Kumar pledged to donate Rs. 11 crore towards PM-CARES fund and Rs. 1 crore separately to the Maharashtra Chief Minister's relief fund. Apart from Bhushan, Varun Dhawan announced his contribution of Rs. 30 lakh to the Prime Minister's fund and Rs. 25 lakh to the Maharashtra CM's relief fund. "Desh hai toh hum hain," the actor wrote in a tweet.
Furthermore, comic/actor Kapil Sharma has pledged Rs. 50 lakh. Anushka Sharma along with her cricketer husband Virat Kohli also pledged an undisclosed amount earlier today. Other celebrities who have pledged financial aid to the cause include Maniesh Paul, Kriti Sanon, and Kartik Aaryan.
