Jolie says 'Couture' sparked family genetics talks with daughters
Angelina Jolie's new film Couture, where she plays a filmmaker facing breast cancer, has inspired honest conversations about health and genetics with her daughters.
At a recent event on June 16, 2026, Jolie shared how the movie helped her family talk openly about genetic risks and the advances in medicine.
She also reflected on losing her mother to ovarian and breast cancer, making these conversations feel even more personal.
Jolie carries BRCA1 and underwent surgeries
Jolie has been open about carrying the BRCA1 gene mutation, which put her at high risk for breast cancer (up to 87%).
To lower that risk, she chose preventive surgeries: a double mastectomy in 2013 and later had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.
Earlier this year, she said her scars remind her of why she made these choices: to stay healthy for her six kids, and to help them feel less afraid of losing their mom.
