Kannada writers and Prakash Raj oppose Karnataka Special Intensive Revision
A group of well-known Kannada writers and authors (including L.N. Mukund Raj, Banu Mushtaq, Rajendra Chenni, and activist-actor Prakash Raj) are speaking out against Karnataka's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.
They're worried this process could leave out anywhere from two million to 30 million eligible voters, calling it, "The State government and the Chief Electoral Officer should not allow such injustice to happen in the land of Sharanas, Sufi saints and poet-laureate Kuvempu."
Writers demand transparent SIR review
The group wants the government to make the revision process more transparent, like limiting tricky software use, letting people review draft lists in village meetings, and adding social verification before finalizing names.
With local elections coming up soon, they're also backing a protest on June 20 in Bengaluru.
