Kashyap says 'Obsession' domination is squeezing Hindi films in theaters
Anurag Kashyap is calling out how tough it is for smaller Hindi films to survive in theaters right now.
His latest movie, Bandar, and Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga didn't get much box office love, even though critics liked them, because Hollywood's Obsession took over most of the good screens and showtimes.
'Bandar' 4.04cr 'Main Vaapas Aaunga' 6.87cr
Kashyap shared that people enjoyed Bandar but chose to wait for streaming instead of catching it in theaters.
He mentioned awkward schedules too, like morning shows for the intense drama Bandar, which actually did better at night.
With only a handful of screenings and not much word-of-mouth buzz possible, both movies struggled: Bandar has grossed over ₹4.04 crore nett so far and Main Vaapas Aaunga earned ₹6.87 crore.
Kashyap also praised regional cinema models that reserve slots for local language films, and hopes something similar could give Hindi movies a fair shot on the big screen.
