'Kyunki' vs 'Anupamaa': Smriti Irani's take sparks debate
The classic TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 made a comeback this year, instantly getting compared to the current hit Anupamaa, led by Rupali Ganguly.
Smriti Irani (Tulsi Virani) weighed in, saying, "I don't (look at them as competition). We were there 25 years ago. If you have the capacity to be remembered for 25 years, then we will talk about competition."
Irani on competition with 'Anupamaa'
Irani pointed out that Kyunki once hit a massive TRP of 30 and stayed number one for eight years, making it tough to compare with Anupamaa today.
She added, "If you have the capacity to be remembered for 25 years, then we will talk about competition."
This sparked fresh debates about which show truly rules TV and what counts as lasting success.
Actors from 'Anupamaa' respond
Actors from Anupamaa like Alpana Buch and Krutika Desai pushed back, saying Irani's comments overlooked their hard work and Rupali Ganguly's long-standing career.
They called for mutual respect between shows—recognizing both new achievements and old legacies.
