'I was numb': Lakshya recalls 'Dostana 2,' 'Bedhadak' being shelved
What's the story
Actor Lakshya has been in the limelight for his recent show, The Bads of Bollywood, directed by Aryan Khan. However, he also experienced a challenging phase before his breakthrough with Kill and The Bads... In a podcast with Raj Shamani, he revealed that two of his films under Dharma Productions were shelved despite being signed for three movies. These were Bedhadak opposite Shanaya Kapoor and Dostana 2 with Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor.
Actor's perspective
He felt 'numb' when the films were shelved
Lakshya recalled feeling "blank" and "numb" when the films were shelved, but didn't let it affect him. He said, "I just told myself it's not your fault. Your job is to wake up in the morning, do voice training, read your scenes, go to the gym, and watch movies." "Who do I blame? God? or Karan Johar? I can't blame anyone na... For some reason, I had the self-belief that it was happening for a reason."
Career choice
He turned down TV show paying ₹20,000/day to pursue films
Despite being offered a new TV show after Porus, which paid ₹20,000-25,000 per day, Lakshya chose to pursue his film career. He said his father urged him to take the offer, but he was determined to become a movie star. "Why could I not become a movie star? What do I lack? This one's doing it, that one's doing it, so why could I not?"
Medium critique
On the declining quality of TV shows
Lakshya also shared his views on the declining quality of television shows. He said he felt he'd hit a saturation point with Porus, having explored every emotion an actor can perform. "The quality in TV was also decreasing... A good film takes over two years to write. But you have to come up with something in television every day." "That's why the shows become cringe after a point," he added.
