Leung warns AI threatens jobs and creates 'popcorn movies'
Tony Leung Chiu-wai is not a fan of how AI is changing filmmaking.
At the Shanghai International Film Festival, he called AI a "double-edged sword," sure, it is efficient, but he worries it could cost people their jobs and lead to bland, soulless "popcorn movies."
For him, films made by AI just miss that artistic spark.
Leung defends cinema viewing and authenticity
Leung also misses the magic of watching movies in theaters, saying "Movies shouldn't be watched outside the cinema."
He appreciates how smaller Chinese films allow for more creativity and hopes easing censorship will bring even richer stories.
When it comes to acting, Leung values genuine emotion over technical perfection, and with three new projects lined up (including one with director Johnnie To), he is sticking to what feels real.
