Maggie Gyllenhaal clarifies, 'The Bride' is not a musical
Maggie Gyllenhaal wants everyone to know her new film "The Bride!" is not a musical.
"Can we just put to bed the thing about it being a musical? It is not a musical at all. That's a different form. I don't know why that keeps coming up," she told Entertainment Weekly, sounding just a bit exasperated by the rumors.
But what is 'The Bride' about?
Set in Chicago, the movie follows Frankenstein's monster (played by Christian Bale) as he asks Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to bring a murdered woman (Jessie Buckley) back to life as his companion.
Expect murder and an outlaw romance—all wrapped up in an R-rated gothic crime story hitting theaters March 6, 2026.
So, why the confusion?
While there are some big dance numbers and even a song performed by Jake Gyllenhaal during the credits, Maggie says these moments are just part of the story—not what defines the movie.
Basically: music is in there, but don't call it a musical.
