'Modern Family' has been renewed for the final 11th season
Modern Family is a popular show on ABC that became famous for its sharp humor and deft portrayal of blended families as well as same-sex couples. The show was almost considered groundbreaking at its time of airing in 2009, for a major broadcasting channel. Now, it has been announced that the Modern Family is ending after its 11th season. Karey Burke, the entertainment president of ABC, was speaking at the winter press tour of the Television Critics Association when she announced the show's ending. She confirmed that Modern Family had been renewed for the 11th season and this would be the last. However, she promised fans that there would be 'more milestone events' in the final season that fans 'won't want to miss'.
For those unaware, despite a fall in show ratings since season 9, Modern Family continues to remain ABC's number 2 comedy, immediately behind The Conners. It is also considered to be the number 4 series overall on the broadcasting channel.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell Pritchett, waved a wistful goodbye on social media, saying "Will be hard to say goodbye. Love my family". Show maker, Christopher Lloyd, playfully said, "For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment. We have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family".
Despite airing for its final season, Modern Family is leaving behind a rich legacy of awards. The show has won 21 Emmy Awards, including 5 consecutive awards for outstanding comedy. It has also won multiple SAG awards and a Golden Globe award.
