What's the story

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to file a formal complaint with Pro Ref over the non-red card decision in the recent match against Leeds United. The incident in question involved a challenge by Leeds defender Jayden Bogle on Spurs player Mathys Tel during their 1-0 loss at Elland Road. Bogle's tackle caught Tel on his Achilles, which was ruled as a foul but without any further punishment from referee John Brooks.

Incident aftermath

VAR took 4 minutes to analyze Bogle's tackle

Tel was unable to continue after the tackle and was substituted before half-time.

A four-minute VAR review followed, but Tony Harrington chose not to recommend an on-field review, deeming the challenge "reckless" as it resulted in Tel's injury.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean also thought Bogle's tackle deserved a red card, saying he caught Tel right down his Achilles with a bad tackle.

Manager's stance

Spurs manager De Zerbi defends referee's decision

Despite the controversy, Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi defended the referee's decision not to use the pitchside monitor.

He said he has "big confidence in the referee" and doesn't think it would have changed anything if he watched the clip or not.

De Zerbi also expressed his uncertainty over whether Tel's incident warranted a red card, but was certain about Pedro Porro's yellow card for a second-half challenge on Nmecha.

Match outcome

Leeds United edge past Tottenham Hotspur

Leeds United secured their first win in six Premier League matches with Noah Okafor's late goal.

The victory ended Tottenham's bid for a fourth straight Premier League win after four years.

Despite the controversy over Bogle's tackle on Tel, the game was largely uneventful in terms of clear-cut chances from both teams' well-organized defenses.

Tottenham suffered their fourth defeat of the season.
