What's the story

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed several match-winners, but only a select few have consistently influenced games with multiple skills. From explosive finishing and economical bowling to exceptional fielding and leadership, these players have offered franchises tremendous value. Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Ravindra Jadeja headline this list, alongside another legendary all-rounder whose contributions shaped multiple IPL campaigns.

#1

Andre Russell - Kolkata Knight Riders

Russell played two seasons for Delhi Capitals before joining Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

He was one of the most feared all-rounders in IPL history through his extraordinary power-hitting and ability to deliver crucial overs.

He scored 2,651 IPL runs at a strike rate of 174.18 and claimed 123 wickets in the competition. His contributions were central to KKR's title-winning campaigns in 2014 and 2024.

He also won the MVP award twice, in 2015 and 2019.

#2

Kieron Pollard - Mumbai Indians

Pollard was the backbone of Mumbai Indians (MI).

His ability to change matches within a few deliveries made him one of the most valuable overseas recruits in the tournament.

He accumulated 3,412 runs and 69 wickets in the IPL. More importantly, he played a significant role in MI's five championship victories between 2013 and 2020, delivering several memorable performances under pressure.

Sunil Narine - Kolkata Knight Riders

Narine's evolution from a mystery spinner into an explosive opening batter made him an extraordinary asset for KKR.

His economical bowling, ability to take wickets in the middle overs and destructive batting at the top gives the franchise multiple options.

He has claimed 207 IPL wickets while scoring 1,820 runs (100s: 1, 50s: 7).

Narine has won the MVP award three times, in 2012, 2018 and 2024.

Shane Watson - Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings

Shane Watson deserves a place among the IPL's most valuable players for his ability to influence matches with both bat and ball.

He scored 3,874 runs and claimed 92 wickets during his IPL career.

His contributions helped RR win the inaugural edition in 2008, while he later played a key role in CSK's 2018 championship triumph.

Watson also won the tournament's MVP award in 2008 and 2013.

#5

Ravindra Jadeja - RR, Kochi, GL and CSK

Jadeja's value extends well beyond his batting and bowling contributions.

His exceptional fielding, ability to control the middle overs and composure during difficult run chases make him a complete T20 cricketer.

He has scored 3,526 IPL runs and taken 180 wickets.

His match-winning cameo in the 2023 IPL final, which secured CSK's fifth title, remains one of the tournament's defining moments.

He has played for RR, Kochi, Gujarat Lions and CSK. Currently, he is back with RR.
