'Mrs. Deshpande': Madhuri Dixit on playing a serial killer
What's the story
Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit is gearing up for her upcoming web series, Mrs. Deshpande, where she will play a serial killer for the first time. In an interview with Zoom, she spoke about her character and how she prepared for it. "I'm excited for this one because Mrs. Deshpande is a character with a lot of layers," she said.
Character exploration
'Mrs. Deshpande is like an onion...'
Dixit further described her character in Mrs. Deshpande, saying, "She's like an onion, and as you go from episode to episode, you're peeling off the onion... literally getting to know her and who she is." When asked if she took inspiration from any Bollywood characters for this role, Dixit said, "No." "I think each character is unique because Mrs. Deshpande has her own story and her own thing, so I had to delve into her life and psyche."
Artistic inspiration
'It's up to the audience to interpret and connect...'
Dixit also reminisced about her interaction with legendary artist MF Husain, who was a huge fan of hers. "I asked him, 'What did you think when you were painting?' He said, 'I'm the painter, it's for you to interpret.'" "I thought that was so real because we are artists when we perform, it's up to the audience to interpret and connect with it," she shared. Meanwhile, the show will premiere on JioHotstar on Friday, December 19.
