Mumbai's taxis and autorickshaws went on a three-day strike starting August 24, protesting a new rule that requires all drivers to pass a Marathi language test.
The deadline to learn Marathi was August 15, and inspections kicked off on August 20, leaving many drivers scrambling.
Mumbai: 722 drivers fail Marathi test
Out of 5,211 drivers checked, 722 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region couldn't speak Marathi and now have one month to retake the test or risk suspension for up to three months. If they fail again, their suspension of authorisation could be canceled.
