Netflix cancels Duffer Brothers's 'The Boroughs' after 1 season
Netflix has pulled the plug on The Boroughs, the Duffer Brothers's latest sci-fi series, only a month after it dropped in May 2026.
The show kicked off with a solid 5.6 million views opening weekend and hit 9.5 million by week one, but numbers quickly slid to 3.7 million in week two and it slipped to 10th place on Netflix's Top 10 by June 16.
Article says 'The Boroughs' underwritten, expensive
With stars like Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, and Bill Pullman, The Boroughs leaned heavily on special effects and nostalgia from classics like E.T. and Indiana Jones.
But the article said it did feel a little underwritten by the end, leaving too much unexplained or too vague to truly satisfy (plus production was expensive).
In the end, high costs and dropping viewership led Netflix to call it quits after just one season.
